This might be the biggest Friday for new releases so far this year. Multiple moods, multiple styles – let’s get into it.
Of Mics and Men EP – Wu – Tang Clan
It’s Wu-Tang. I needn’t say more.
Fever – Megan Thee Stallion
2019 is the year women will take over the rap game. The fire got started last year but now we are in the thick of it. Ms. Stallion has exploded onto the scene and has shown that she’s much more than a pretty face. With a new freestyle video on her Twitter practically weekly Megan has shown she has the bars and energy to back up her confident personality. Being that this is her debut album all eyes will be on her to capitalize on the success she has gained up to this point. With 14 tracks and only two features she’s definitely here to prove a point. And yes – she will deliver.
Injury Reserve – Injury Reserve
Some of you may not be familiar with this group. And that’s okay – you will be after you hear this project. For anyone who doesn’t think there’s any “real rap” left look no farther. The trio consisting of two rappers and their producer have a sound all their own and don’t feel the need to follow the trends. Keep an open mind when you head into this one and prepare to be blown away by creativity and uniqueness. This project is their debut album and not one to be missed.
Father of Asahd – DJ Khaled
The song of the summer could be on this project as we all know what to expect from these albums at this point. Fun posse cuts and perfect pairings. But, this particular project has something very special on it – a track called “Higher” featuring the legendary Nipsey Hussle. Khaled posted that there is also a music video for this track. He shared that while on set shooting it Nipsey, true to his character, shared some advice with him too. According to Khaled, all of the profits from this track will go to Nipsey’s children.
IGOR – Tyler, The Creator
Tyler, The Creator is a renaissance man. And his albums show he is a chameleon. While he does have a signature sound, the soundscape across his projects is forever evolving and changing. This project continues that pattern. The promotion for this album was just as unconventional as Tyler himself as he posted 3 snippets and absolutely no singles prior to its release. Tyler instructed that we listen to this one with no distractions for our initial play-through – will you adhere to this?
Gran Turismo – Curren$y x Statik Selektah
Smooth raps. Soul samples. Cool beats. It’s what Curren$y does best time and time again.
